Project Overview

The new road is open.

Although the majority of the works are obviously complete, with traffic now running on the new route, there are some areas of work left to be constructed.

A237

The old road running from the Southern Roundabout past Coulsdon South Station to Marlpit Lane will now be known as the A237. Works will begin in the New Year to upgrade the road surface, kerbs and footways. The majority of the works will involve lane narrowing, traffic management and traffic lights and will take approximately 3-months to complete.

Northern Junction
The Northern Junction itself is complete and fully operational for both vehicles and pedestrians, however, much of the "off-line" works are still to be finished. On both sides of the road there are a number of brick clad walls to build adjacent to the station.

Similarly in the area next to the Methodist Church there are a number of brick and flint walls to complete.

MARLPIT LANE TO SMITHAM STATION
Finishing works to the footways and brickwork will be complete in early December.

MARLPIT LANE ROUNDABOUT
Complete other than final street lighting and anti skid works.

SOUTHERN ROUNDABOUT TO MARLPIT LANE
This section has been complete for some time and is visible from the Southern roundabout heading North.

SMITHAM STATION AREA / NORTHERN JUNCTION
The new footbridge is in place, but will not be opened until the lifts are fully commissioned and the station platform extensions constructed. In addition there are various improvements to be made to the existing platforms. Once these activities are complete the new bridge will become operational and the temporary bridge removed. This should be done by the end of February.
